What is the Epithalon (Epitalon) peptide?
Epithalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide composed of four amino acids:
Ala–Glu–Asp–Gly (AEDG).
It is derived from epithalamin, a naturally occurring peptide complex isolated from the pineal gland, an organ involved in circadian rhythm and hormonal regulation.
Epithalon has been studied mainly for its anti-aging, cellular regulation, and circadian rhythm–modulating properties.
Key biological roles and proposed mechanisms
1. Telomerase activation & cellular aging
Epithalon is best known for its ability to activate telomerase in somatic cells.
Telomerase helps maintain telomere length, which is associated with:
Cellular longevity
Reduced replicative senescence
This has made Epithalon a major focus in longevity and gerontology research.
